I sat in the front row, too, and appreciated the intimacy and I'd be thrilled if it were in a smaller house on Broadway, but surely the view from the back row at the Armory isn't so different from the view in the mezzanine at the St. James? (You probably know the vagaries of the seating plan better than I do.) I don't know what the seating capacity for Illinoise is at the Armory, but the space itself is vast and epic. Sitting in Row A it was easy to forget the fact. Peck generally choreographs for a theatre like the Koch at LC, which is almost 1000 seats bigger than the St. James.
Now I'd like to have seen it at Chicago Shakes! It played in their new(-ish) space The Yard, which I think seats at most 850. |
