Taboo had an *exceptional* score, especially for a pop-music based show

It really is a very impressive, very fun, very touching and sometimes heartbreaking, very dynamic, and for me very memorable score. I think it very much deserved its Best Score nomination (and quite a best Score year, with Caroline or Change, Wicked, and Avenue Q which won and very much should not have... I'm ok with it winning Musical, but it wasn't the Best Score that year, it wasn't even the 2nd best, or even the 3rd).

I can't pretend I think the actual book worked. I think the story, as told and imagined via the score and the lyrics and the order of the songs, is really good. But the actual book somehow just messed it up. And I will say too, costumes aside, the direction was strangely blah and not very interesting let alone very good.

The show is VERY due for a revisal, or even just a revival. I'm curious how even the book as it was would do re-directed. But I think it's quite overdue for an Encores production, without the Encores-revising happening to it even. Just present the score and a thinned version of the book.
