In this case, it sounds like Foley's concept was presented to Sondheim years earlier; had he hated it, I imagine he could've shot it down.
And wouldn't Lapine have to sign off on this, too? Again, I wish I could see the whole show play out, instead of only seeing video snippets.
But it does appear that Foley put a lot of thought into its execution; it's not just some slapdash concept foisted and forced to fit the show. |
