I agree with you on both points. I was one of those nine-year olds who could enjoy adult shows.
I also agree that in this case, the sensory overload probably did the kid in. It overwhelmed me. I was sitting in the first row. A terrible seat choice in retrospect. Additionally, I did not enjoy the content.
