Love this but it's hard to appreciate given the video quality. The funniest thing I've ever seen in a theater is unquestionably SISTER MARY IGNATIUS. I'd never seen anything by Durang when I entered the Westside Theatre in 1982 and from the minute Elizabeth Franz began her brilliant impersonation I collapsed in helpless hysterical laughter. I quickly bought tickets for a group of ex Catholic friends and one of them, a French woman who went to a convent school had an even more extreme reaction. All her pent up rage against the nuns who had tormented her came out in a combination of shock at Durang's irreverence and bouts of liberating laughter and tears. Talk about catharsis! Truly, unforgettable nights in the theater.
