The Harold Prince original will never be topped, not the Mendes version. It was the greatest show I've ever seen. Not decadence in your face from the start, but the gradual take-over luring you in.


I absolutely agree with every word, and with tandelor too, below. The Harold Prince original was the only version so far that was squarely aimed at attentive grown-ups, and not at people who (supposedly, by "genius" directors, anyway) can't begin to grasp a point until they're been banged over the head with it from act one curtain-up.
