London didn't really see that much of the Sam Mendes "Cabaret." It played less than four months at the Donmar Warehouse in 1993 and was then televised in a somewhat shortened version. When Roundabout picked it up in 1998, it was co-directed by Mendes and Rob Marshall, with Marshall also doing the choreography. While the overall concepts were still the work of Mendes, Marshall made a huge contribution and the Broadway version was far superior to the Donmar show. London got an entirely different "Cabaret" revival in 2006, but it was surprising that the Broadway version of Mendes' "Cabaret" did not go back to London.
