I don’t think it did that well offbroadway—clearly not enough to move to broadway. But it did get a lot of regional productions and a successful revival at roundabout.
I’m not sure if Into the woods or Sunday are candidates. Woods has been super successful in school version and several revivals on broadway. Woods might be one that closed in the red on broadway but recouped on the road—not sure. Sunday has had a few successful revivals on broadway.
