I have to agree with her assessment of all three. I hated baby reindeer even though my friend loved and told me I had to see it. Ripley was a slog to get through and I really like Andrew Scot. Cabaret is a mess. I’m not sure I agree with the conclusion of the uglification of art in general. There is plenty of good stuff and upbeat stuff out there. It may be bland, but notebook is really lovely show with a touching ending. Did making a musical out of the terrific movie add anything—probably not. I did find elephant whimsical. And back to the future is far from dark and sad and ugly.
