I have never understood the various stage and film adaptations of Gatsby incorporating Art Deco. The story takes place in 1922 New York. This is three years before the 1925 Paris exhibition and even several years before the construction of the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. Art Deco can hardly be regarded as even "nascent" in 1922 New York and Gatsby's mansion would certainly not have been Art Deco.
