I thought she flawlessly navigated the character moments in her vocals when needed straight into when we needed to hear these beautiful songs sung by a consummate technician.
Beautiful songs? Well, perhaps "My Friends" and "Wait," but the rest? (And that's no dig on Sondheim. I just wouldn't call them "beautiful" and I don't think he would either.)
BTW - "consummate technician" is a phrase I would tend to use when someone can make all the correct sounds but there's no nuance/acting value going into it. I doubt that's what you meant lol. |
