| I was so thrilled to see that the ever-funny Ms. Burnett was trending on X for much of the day! Happy, happy birthday to one of our most gifted comediennes! Many thanks for years and years of entertainment, laughs, and moments we will cherish forever! Of course, Carol rose to prominence overnight as Princess Winnifred in "Once Upon a Mattress," which she reprised in three separate TV incarnations (the last, as Queen Aggravain). Also, on the musical front, she starred in the Jule Styne/Comden & Green "Fade Out, Fade In." Decades later, she'd return as The Wife in the Stephen Sondheim revue, "Putting It Together." She also appeared in the plays "Moon Over Buffalo" and in "Hollywood Arms," based on her personal memoir, which she wrote in collaboration with daughter Carrie Hamilton. Her final Broadway appearance was a one-month stint in "Love Letters" in 2014. Her eponymous hit TV variety show ran for eleven seasons on CBS, from 1967-1978. On it, she featured big-name guest stars, many from the world of Broadway. The show was known for its sketch comedy, production numbers, and takeoffs on famous movies and TV shows. Her list of movie credits includes: "Pete 'n' Tillie" (1972), "The Front Page" (1974), "A Wedding" (1978), "The Four Seasons" (1981), "Annie" (1982), "Noises Off" (1992), and "Horton Hears a Who!" (2008). She and best pal, Julie Andrews, joined forces for three successful and acclaimed TV specials: "Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall" (1962), "Julie and Carol at Lincoln Center" (1971), and "Julie & Carol: Together Again" (1989). In 2005, she was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush. As recently as 2024, in the Apple TV series, "Palm Royale," she contiues to delight audiences as Norma Dellacorte, alongside co-stars Laura Dern, Ricky Martin, and Kristen Wiig.
