First of all, there are no rules. Secondly, no one budgets for the bare minimum unless they want to fail, so that assumption is wrong. You are raising money; why would you want to raise the bare minimum? Some costs obviously go up, but oftentimes others come down. A good producer acts just like you do: if a new cleaners opens near you and wants your business so they offer lower prices, do you keep paying the higher price? The longer a show runs, the more likely you discover ways you are wasting money. This is not stuff most people walk in knowing. I don't know what else to say; good producing means not wasting money. What is the return on this form of advertising? If it is low, you stop spending it. It goes on and on.

The Shuberts and Neil Meron were lead producers of SLIH but neither has a lot of experience lead producing at this point, and (unlike other Shubert-produced undertakings in this century, did not have an experienced executive producer as they gave this job to their in-house creative VP, Dessie Moynihan) and while Meron is very experienced in other media, the theatre is not his wheelhouse. I also assume this credit for him resulted from the fact that he and at the time the late Craig Zadan basically controlled the property.)

I hope this is clear. If not, feel free...)
