Kristin Chenoweth in concert 5/18

Had a great time Saturday seeing Cheno in concert with the North Carolina Symphony in Raleigh. She gave an enraptured audience two hours of music and patter with plenty of laughs. She commented that she's been singing "Popular" for over twenty years now and has to find ways to keep it interesting, so she combined it with her love of reality TV and performed the song as advice to a Real Housewife on her way to a prison stint. But she did acknowledge that it's every performer's dream to have a song so associated with them that they must sing it at every concert.

She started the set with "Que Sera Sera." Other highlights included "The Way We Were," "You Don't Own Me," "Bring Him Home," "Angels Among Us" (dedicated to health care workers), and a gorgeous medley of "Always on My Mind" and "Losing My Mind." Nothing from the forthcoming "Queen of Versailles," which she didn't even mention, even though the Boston production is coming up soon.

At any rate, she was in excellent voice, with her full range on display. Her lower register sounded rich and creamy, and the stratospheric notes are all still there. Just when you thought she must be at the top of her range, she went higher.
