| Kenan Thompson seems to be, aside from Colin Jost and Michael Che, who don't really do sketches other than their Weekend Update, their "straight" leading man type right now, who is used in sketches when some kind of eccentric character performance isn't needed or, as in this sketch, might distract from the real joke. He doesn't really do characters. He's just a generally funny guy who can get a laugh, even when the lines aren't particularly funny. And I think he's the longest serving cast member in SNL history, so he's obviously found a niche there. | |
