It's a sex scene. One with wit and elegance and beauty. And their terpsichorean rutting is done to one of the most tuneful songs ever written. (Did Maureen O'Hara do sex much? I haven't seen most of her movies so I'm probably going on MIRACLE ON 34th STREET and ONLY THE LONELY so I'm probably unfair thinking she couldn't be sultry. But Deborah Kerr was just so wonderful at buried passion.

I always think that KING AND I as a film benefits from being largely an indoor movie. OKLAHOMA! and CAROUSEL before it both have a studio-bound feel, making them feel a bit suffocated OKLAHOMA! particularly could have used a more realistic recreation of the vast plains that everybody is always singing about.
