| I'm glad people think of these productions as hits... but I'm not sure. However I don't think they were playing to half-empty houses much if ever in their comparatively short runs. (though revivals on Broadway tend to run their course much faster on average than new shows) The last Into the Woods seemed like a hit but... at the same time, they closed it after 6 months. The original did 808, the 2002 revival did 297, the 2022 revival did 223. So it didn't even play as long as the first revival, which despite winning Best Revival, I don't recall being thought of as a hit (though I'm sure it was much more expensive than this last concert revival with no set and no actual star names after Sara left 8 weeks in). Company 2021 revival did 297 (8 months). The 2006 did, interestingly. 280. Merrily will have played, i think, 332 (nearly 10 months). I have no idea if any of these productions recouped ... but I consider running 6-10 months very good. Investors probably do not. Merrily was able to get a very high ticket price, so that helped a lot I'm sure. But I'm curious. If I'm not mistaken, the longest running Sondheim revival since Forum was the 2009 A Little Night Music, which ran 445, or about 13.5 months... 2023 Sweeney is right behind with 433 (but probably got a much higher ticket price) (the previous Sweeney did 384). Forum did 750. All the other revivals I haven't mentioned (Sunday x 2, Follies x 2, Assassins, Pacific Overtures, The Frogs) played under 200 (not counting WSS or Gypsy).
