In the July 1993 ANALOG, I have a story called “Hoofer,” about a stranded humanoid alien who lands a job dancing in a Cole Porter show while waiting for the ride back home…
I’ll let you know if I ever sell the one about the unnamed professor of phonetics and the two tourists with an accent he can’t figure out, since they come from much, much farther away than “South Carolina.” ;)
