I appreciate your forceful (but respectful) pushback. I wish I had the experience and knowledge to continue with a rebuttal, but I don't even have the drive or need for that. And, I fully admit that I was absolutely speaking in broad strokes and generalities. I think I articulated my general (though not always consistent) preference for musicals being live vs. on film and their relative "effectiveness" and impact. That doesn't mean there aren't film musicals (or, in some cases, scenes or specific numbers in film musicals, that absolutely delight me.) Although it's far from perfect, one of the reasons I've always loved Rob Marshall's Chicago is his 'placement' of the musical numbers in Roxie's imagination. It makes the 'indulgence' of seeing these moments explored in full-length musical numbers more effective in the medium, I think. I totally see why he cut 'Class' (though, I, of course, love that song.)
