| Alan, I actually saw her when she played Detroit, as you know , one of the few times she toured a show. I was only 7 years old but had been playing the cast album for months before and was quite the precocious mini theater diva. I was thrilled by many things that afternoon: that overture, the fact that I was seated on the aisle and Merman made her entrance walking right by me, her power and clarity. I will admit that seeing Faith Dane was equally thrilling to me as Gotta Have a Gimmick was my favorite number and “Once I was a schlepper…..”my favorite line even though I hadn’t a clue what a shlepper was! |
