They have done so many things right. Their ticket access programs allowed it to have probably the most diverse audience I have seen at nyc theaters, diversity in race, age and probably economics. I understand that that program was finite and cost a lot of money but so does non-profit theater in general. Signature genuinely succeeded in finding new audiences. When I saw "Bad Kreyol" it was with an audience demographic that I had not seen in an nyc theater before but belonged there and was at home there. What a sad thing if this adventurous generous theater were to close. |
