I would have left at intermission if a friend hadn't taken me and who enjoyed it more than I did. I thought the adaptation was mostly a synopsis of the novel with the able ensemble being used as a descriptive chorus to speed things along and add energy when they weren't stepping into the many different characters. It lacked a dramatic shape in my opinion. And the direction was so mannered, broad and frenetic without any seeming rhyme or reason that it also made the language of Woolf's text hard to understand. It was also not funny or at least it wasn't for me but seemed to insist that it was. I liked the second half much more where the relentless pace slackened a bit and Woolf's meditation on gender and time came through more clearly with less theatrical doodling all over it.
