Wasn't Jane Horrocks directed as Sally to also rather scream/have a nervous breakdown on stage in the prior London production? She certainly was capable of doing a very good singing performance of the song, since she was quite effective in her singing and mimicry of good singers in "Little Voice". Apparently Gayle Rankin is also capable of offering a fine singing performance, but has been directed in the latest version to do one of these -- how to put it -- on the verge of hysteria, screw the singing -- performances. Is that the template for how future Sallys in this performance will be directed -- and given notes by the stage manager if they get away from that and sing John Kander's music well?
