The innovations here, including immersion (and some pre show) have a few precedents, Great Comet and Here Lies Love recently. But I recall the BAM Candide in my 20s. A gutted theater to suggest a circus. None of those made large profits, two didn’t return on investment. One that worked was the 54 conversion, with orchestra level tables: but that was Cabaret. Twice.
