I saw it in LA, after SF... I wouldn't even say it was a bore. I would say it was woefully poorly directed in all departments. A real wasted opportunity for the first Broadway revival of The Wiz that isn't a (cheap) recreation of the original. I long for a cheap recreation of the original now.
The revival from La Jolla from 2006 was better. The Encores summer series revival in 2009 was better. The Wiz Live production, which was supposed to be a pre-cursor to a Broadway mounting of that production (but didn't happen), was better. Any of these would have been far worthier Broadway revivals for this show. |
