''Merrily'' was eligible LAST year. Groff won Outstanding Lead Performer in an Off-Broadway Musical, and Mendez won Featured (beating out Radcliffe).

I, however, did witness the MOST embarrassing Tony nominations announcement. Kathleen Turner, who was starring in ''Indiscretions'' (1995) that season, helped read the nominations at Sardi's. And all of the members of her ''Indiscretions'' cast - Eileen Atkins, Roger Rees, Jude Law and Cynthia Nixon - were each nominated. Except Turner. And it was a 5-person cast. I felt so bad for her, but she was such a trooper. A decade later, Turner WAS Tony-nominated for her magnificent Martha in ''Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'' and I secretly hoped she'd get her Tony, but 'twas not to be.
