So, by your count she’s missed 65 performances, but only some of them early on were due to filming, which was pre-planned and quite normal for working Broadway actors. So that’s a strange straw to grasp for, since it doesn’t speak to the bulk of her issues nor to the inability of producers to announce a set schedule.

If she is having personal and physical issues that make it difficult for her to perform every day, and if those complications are happening on a day-by-day basis, and if the producers want her in the show enough to make accommodations, then there is no reason to belittle Mendez, her work ethic, or her professionalism. Lambast the show all you want for not sharing her absences until the last moment, because that is indeed shady as hell, but until we know otherwise, let’s presume that Mendez is doing everything she can to be there for the audience as much as she can.

And let’s hope that if you find yourself in a similar physical situation, your employers and colleagues offer you the compassion that you’re so forcefully denying Mendez.
