The Lempicka score, recommended to me; what am I missing?

Someone I respect said, "Please. Just listen to the signature song, and tell me what you think." I am open to almost any style of music being used in musical theater, from Abba to Guettel to my most recent close listen, Sufjan Stevens, whose Illinoise album is infused with such bittersweet rumination and even melancholy it commands attention. But I went through three different available recordings of the attenuated, overwrought "Woman Is" and I remain baffled by the fervor of this score's fans. As the show inches toward its early close, is a case being made that this piece will be remembered as a missed opportunity? A cult show that will find a new life via songs heard out of context? I cannot hear it, even with dips into two other songs.
