Nominations Announced for 30th Helen Hayes Awards
Ceremony Is April 21

theatreWashington announced nominations for the 30th Annual Helen Hayes Awards January 27 on the stage of the National Theatre in Washington, DC. In a departure from past years, this year's ceremony will be held at the National Building Museum, not at a theater, on April 21.

Signature Theatre led Washington area professional theaters with 20 Helen Hayes Award nominations, followed by 16 for Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company and 15 for the Shakespeare Theatre Company. Productions receiving the most nominations were Woolly Mammoth's Stupid Fucking Bird with eight, and seven each for the Shakespeare Theatre's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Round House Theatre's Glengarry Glen Ross.

Linda Levy, president and CEO, theatreWashington, noted that the organization has made changes to the award process that will debut at the 2015 awards presentation. Beginning in 2014, the Outstanding Choreography award has been expanded into two awards—Outstanding Choreography for a Musical and Outstanding Movement for a Play—and the award categories formerly designated as "non-resident" productions will now be called "visiting" productions.
