Minnelli on Minnelli

Angel Records documents Liza Minnelli's historic stand at the Palace Theatre by releasing a live recording of Minnelli on Minnelli: Live at the Palace. The album release date is February 29, 2000. The show found Liza performing an evening of heartfelt tribute to her late father, Vincente Minnelli, one of the most honored directors in the history of the American cinema and acknowledged master of the movie musical. The sense of emotion and history was further intensified in that the shows took place at the venerable Palace Theatre, the famed Broadway house where Liza's mother, Judy Garland, made her celebrated comebacks in 1951 and 1967. The show was embraced by critics and fans alike as an emotional tour de force and easily became the hottest ticket in town.

Minnelli on Minnelli: Live at the Palace is a wonderfully intimate collection of American standards that not only defined America in the heyday of the big movie musical, but served as the soundtrack for the relationship between this famous father and daughter. The Broadway production was directed by longtime collaborator Fred Edd and featured arrangements by Marvin Hamlisch and Billy Stritch. Minnelli on Minnelli features classic songs from films such as An American in Paris, Meet Me in Lt. Louis, Gigi and many more. Highlights include "I Got Rhythm", "Baubles, Bangles & Beads", "The Trolley Song" and "I Thank You," a gorgeous new song from Kander & Ebb, written especially as an ode from Liza to her father.

The album was recorded December 27th and 28th, 1999 during Liza's smash run at the Palace Theatre. It was produced by legendary producer Phil Ramone and long-time Liza collaborator Billy Stritch. Ramone - known for his work with Billy Joel, Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney, as well as countless Broadway recordings - also produced Liza's celebrated 1992 album Liza Minnelli: Live From Radio City. This album also marks Liza's continuing association with Stritch, the celebrated pianist, singer and arranger, who has collaborated closely with Liza on her performances for close to a decade.

Due to the amazing response from the public, Liza will be taking Minnelli on Minnelli on tour, traveling coast to coast through the Spring, Summer and into the Fall. The tour kicks off in San Francisco with dates at the historic Orpheum Theater, March 9th through March 19th. Further limited engagements include: Washington DC, April 12-16 at The Kennedy Center, Chicago, May 2-6 & 9-13 at The Shubert Theater, dates TBA in June, July & August, East Lansing, Sept 13-17, Michigan State University, Detroit, Oct 6-8, 11-15 & 18-22 at The Masonic Temple and Miami Beach, Fl., December 27-31 at The Jackie Gleason Theater. Minnelli on Minnelli is the continuation of a releationship between Angel Records and Liza Minnelli which began with the 1996 release of Gently, which went on to become her most successful studio album to date.

"I loved my father more than I can ever express. He taught me that anything was possible just as long as you went about it the right way, as long as you used your mind and always tried to be as good as you could be. That was one of the things he left
me."
- Liza Minnelli

Over the years Liza has collected three Tony Awards, an Oscar, two Golden Globe Awards, and an Emmy. And now, it's our turn to add to our collections. The CD, Minnelli on Minnelli will be in record stores accross the country on February 29th!
