Doctor Dolittle

50th anniversary limited edition set. Features a newly restored and remastered version of Leslie Bricusse’s 1967 original motion picture score and songs, expanded beyond the original album. The film starred Rex Harrison, Samantha Eggar and Anthony Newley. Produced, restored, mixed and mastered by Mike Matessino, from studio vault elements, in consultation with the composer. Includes the underscore arranged by Alexander Courage and Lionel Newman, and alternates and never-before-heard demo recordings by Rex Harrison. Paperback version of 2007 book by Marijean Levering. About Detroit's Players Club, founded in 1910, an all-male club devoted to the production of theater by members for other members' enjoyment. "The Players" designed, directed, and acted in the shows, including playing the female roles. At their monthly frolics, members in the audience would wear tuxedos and drink beer out of personalized mugs, customs that remain to this day. Members included prominent Detroiters such as banker Henry B. Joy, Oldsmobile sales manager Roy D. Chapin, and Ford executives James Couzens and Edsel Ford. 292 pages.
