I had some serious trepidation about going to see Darius Rose/Jackie Cox because while Wade McCollum is an experienced theatrical actor, Rose is mostly known as a "RuPaul's Drag Race" contestant. A one-person show requires a lot of technique and experience and command of the stage.

I needn't have worried. It seems that Rose/Cox has done a lot of cabaret and has stage experience. He had excellent comic timing, good stage presence, is attractive and convincing in male and female attire. Rose/Cox is adept at mimicry and assuming different voices when he was imitating other characters in the story. There was a lot of variety in his performance. He even could sing.

The play itself is cobbled together from various Kenneth/Kate Marlowe autobiographical books - it's efficient but Marlowe has amazing stories to tell and they come over strongly.

The play is only 90 minutes long but feels like a very full evening. BTW: it has extended yet again to March 24th.
Recommended.
