So a friend is in the midst of planning a production of the new updated version of Knott's WAIT UNTIL DARK and has run into a wall with a fire issue. There is push back about the striking of three wooden matches during the penultimate closing scene. The use of live fire/spark inside a theater, has a number of the staff up (rightfully)in arms. Has anyone who has produced the play have any good suggestions on how to overcome this obstacle? Yes, of course, the people who are protesting should have read the play before they chose it, but that horse has left the stable, thanks. Suggestions have been to use a lighter (fine, but how is that really different? And then a period lighter needs to be found) I know that fire laws are different depending on the locale, but I am sure that someone knows the play and has a clever workaround. Thanks. |
