An evening full of love. What a treat to hear a full orchestra, the way these glorious arrangements were meant to be heard. David and Debbie did full justice to the music, and also to the humor of Steve and Eydie, bringing out archived jokes. Invoking the TV specials, there was a Gershwin medley. Debbie, of course, has a powerhouse voice for those wonderful Eydie ballads, and even wore one of Eydie's own gowns. David has his father's smooth vocal tone and told family anecdotes, wearing a genuine Steve tuxedo.

Coming back on stage for an encore, David started to cry when he spoke of his father's recent death. He asked the audience to sing "Our Love is Here to Stay" as a tribute to his parents, and I felt a little weepy myself. I'm so glad the concert went on as scheduled as a kind of memorial. Marc Shaiman sat in the third row.
