Sat. afternoon, 3/31: Dead Outlaw -- Offbeat, funny musical about Elmer McCurdy, a troubled youth with early success in life, who fell on hard times and turned outlaw. Tuneful score by David Yazbek. Hilarious performance by Andrew Durand and fine support from Trent Saunders and Thom Sesma. The band is great.

Sat. evening, 3/31: The Outsiders -- Amiable cast, pleasant music, but underwhelming show. Sort of West Side Story-lite. To be fair, it's still in previews.

Sun. afternoon, 4/1: The Ally -- Riveting, provocative drama about a college professor faced with protests stemming from the Gaza/Israeli conflict and the police killing of an unarmed black youth. Strong performances by Josh Radnor, Cherise Boothe, Elijah Jones, and Ben Rosenfield. Issues are explored with passion on all sides, but there are no easy answers.

Sun. evening, 4/1: "Oh, Mary!" -- (See my previous posts)

Mon. evening, 4/2: Hell's Kitchen -- Solid, strong storytelling. Keys' songs effectively comment on the action and illuminate character. Fine choreography. Nice debut by Maleah Joi Moon. Shoshana Bean needs to tone down the anger, but her pipes are thrilling. Kecia Lewis is the heart of this show in a Tony worthy performance which is reason enough to see the production. She had me in tears all evening. Grief's direction is a little heavy handed at times.
