Right but the production was put together in 2019, and was announced shortly after lockdown in 2020- the only reason it was put off till fall 2021 was because it was becoming apparent that theater wasn’t likely to come back much sooner than that.
In any case even in fall 2021 Hoffman would have just turned 84 - and while he’s clearly able to still act without difficulty in films, in terms of a leading role who hardly leaves the stage on Broadway there’s a big difference between 84 (or 83), and 87…. once you get into that age bracket even a year or two makes a huge difference in what you can take on and what you can’t. As much as I would love to see Dustin Hoffman on stage again, but it clearly won’t be in Our Town so I’m having trouble thinking what else it might be. |
