I thought Gatsby's (the character) first number was sensational and I immediately wanted to hear it again. But also appreciate that it was only reprised judisiously. Not only was it a great and memorable song, but also I think they did a good job of giving their star a very strong first moment. Well in fact I would say it was the highlght of the entire show. Which may not inspire some since it comes early on :-)
I don't remember a lot else, but would enjoy hearing it again. I felt some Frank Wildhorn vibes (not a put down) and it certainly did not bother me that the music wasn't rigidly linked to the time the story takes place. |
