| I don't think it's that dramatic actually. I would say 2002's Topdog/Underdog, 2003's Anna in the Tropics, 2004's I Am My Own Wife, 2009's Ruined, 2010's Next to Normal, 2011's Clybourne Park, 2012's Water by the Spoonful, and 2013's Disgraced all center on issues affecting less highlighted populations. I think perhaps what feels like a shift is away from winners that seem primed for decades of regional productions into more daring, difficult works that probably will not be produced as widely. |
