| The Gershwin Prize this year honored Elton John and Bernie Taupin. As such, there were no songs from The Lion King, Billy Elliot or Aida. Nothing from their single Broadway collaboration, Lestat. Elton John performed a couple of songs just before he and Taupin received their award. Joni Mitchell did a fine job with ‘I’m Still Standing’. After a tribute to Ryan White, Brandi Carlile sang ‘Skyline Pigeon’. Elton and Bernie gave heartfelt acceptance speeches. |
