Whatever reason they have for screaming, they obviously infringe on others' ability to enjoy of a show. When lyrics and spoken lines (particularly those following a "favored" song) are obliterated, I think you've gone past your right to show your appreciation at a certain level.
One reason I think people assign selfish reasons for the screaming is that the screamers apparently don't care about hearing the lyrics and spoken lines themselves. They'd rather scream than know what's going on in the show.
I don't get it (and I'll deal with the ear pain and possible hearing loss - yes, it can happen when people scream in your ear), but it's apparently here to stay, and I say (to the wind) have at it during the curtain call, but during the show, I'd really like to hear what the actors are saying and singing. |
