Absolutely.

And having mangled an English accent once in Kinky Boots, in which she also produced noises that don't resemble anything you might hear within a couple of thousand miles of the place her accent in that show was supposed to represent, it's astonishing that Ms. Ashford was given another go. In terms of accuracy, she makes Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins sound like Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady.

To be fair, it's not an easy thing to do in either direction. We (in the UK) speak from further back in our throats, generally, and we use a wider tonal range and move our mouths a lot more when we talk - whereas a British actor trying to sound American has to learn (among other things) not to move their top lip so much, to maintain a more even pitch, and to not lean too heavily into the R sounds even though they're more pronounced than in most English accents. Even when an actor gets the sounds basically correct, sometimes you end up with something like Kelli O'Hara's accent in The King And I - basically accurate, but everything she says and sings sounds like she's methodically Doing An Accent, because the effort of getting the sounds right and moving her mouth correctly in order to do so sucks all of the spontaneity out of the performance.
