Episode 3: Superstar Interrupted, is a journey through the glamour and disillusionment of a revolutionary era. From the 1967 Summer of Love in Provincetown, through New York City's Underground, to the Balearic Islands with poet Robert Graves, Penny's story travels from a teen runaway on the streets of New York into the heart of the 1960's artistic zeitgeist. 56 years into Penny Arcade's unique performance career, Penny proves she lived to tell the tale as she reinvents the memoir and embarks on a multi-episodic musical memoir of her life. In some, but not all, previously studied cases, gynandromorphic birds have had internal sex organs that matched their external plumage, with an ovary on one side and a testis on the other. Past observations suggest that some gynandromorphic birds can successfully court mates and reproduce. But this particular green honeycreeper was never observed engaging in any courtship or mating behavior. It tended to avoid other green honeycreepers and often hung back from the feeding station until other birds had departed. "The bird was inclined to be a bit of a loner," Dr. Spencer said. Still, it seemed to stick around, visiting the feeding station repeatedly over a period of nearly two years. "This bird was around for a long time," Dr. Spencer said. Starlite spent the better part of five years developing the original script that draws from videos, interviews, biographies and rare recordings, as well as first person interviews with those who personally knew the Teutonic chanteuse. This seriocomic portrayal is a masterful characterization that includes performances of songs by Lou Reed, Jim Morrison, Jackson Browne, David Bowie, Rogers and Hart, Gordon Lightfoot and Bob Dylan, as well as Nico's own compositions. Dynasty Handbag: The Bored Identity Monday, April 22 at 9:30pm In the spirit of 70's comedy albums by artists such as Lily Tomlin and Richard Pryor, The Bored Identity is a collection of characters and songs by the underground's most beloved subversive comedic performance artist. Dynasty Handbag takes on the self care industrial complex, murderous misogyny and the horrors of heteronormativity by deftly moving in and out of a crackpot slew of characters in ridiculously imaginative scenarios. Kyle Dunnigan Tuesday, April 30 at 9:30pm Kyle Dunnigan will be premiering unreleased original comedy music for an upcoming special. Kyle is an Emmy, Peabody and Writer's Guild Award winning comedy writer. He also won an Emmy for the most outstanding original music for the song "Girl You Don't Need Make Up". He stars as Johnny Carson and Walter Cronkite in the new Jerry Seinfeld movie, Unfrosted on Netflix and Eddie in Adam Carolla's upcoming animated series, "Mr. Birchum". He also starred in several sketches on the hit Comedy Central show "Inside Amy Schumer" and recurred on "Reno 911" as Craig a.k.a The Truckee River Killer. Serbian American composer Dusan Bogdanovic's Delphic Hymns are based on some of the oldest written music our culture has preserved, while Sting's music is transformed into indie classical sounds of intimate chamber music. Paris based Atanas Ourkouzounov's Lamento et Rock Bulgare, written especially for this collaboration, and the genre-transcending music of NYC-based Rubin Kodheli who grew up in Albania, Belgium, and Germany all in one evening come together to celebrate the beauty and diversity of modern chamber music. The NYOF celebrates the oud and its wide-ranging influence on global music culture, showcasing artists from a multitude of traditions and contexts, demonstrating why the oud continues to be one of the world's most beloved instruments. The driving hybrid kit grooves of Indian percussionist and drummer, Rohan Krishnamurthy, the soulful Ragas and melodies of Prasant Radhakrishnan on saxophone, and the harmonic bedrock of Colin Hogan embodies the permanence of a changing soundscape. The NYU N'Harmonics Monday, April 29 at 9:30pm The N'Harmonics are a world renowned all-gender a cappella group from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. They are returning to Joe's Pub for their annual end of year concert at the iconic venue. They will be performing N'Harmz standards like "Fire" and "Whipping Post," as well as new arrangements by current music director Noor Hila. Coming from varying New York creative scenes, the ‘Harmz use multidisciplinary storytelling to make an artistic statement with their work. This year, the N'Harmz competed in the Varsity Vocals ICCA tournament for the first time since their 2019 Championship, placing 3rd in the Northeast Semifinals at Berklee College of Music after a sweeping victory and Best Soloist award at Quarterfinals. Kiran will be performing new music from her long-awaited album, Comfort Food, which is due to be released in April 2024. Grace Mclean Album Release Monday, May 6 at 9:30pm Called "electrifying" by The Huffington Post and "phenomenal" by The New York Times, Grace McLean is a multi-hyphenate actor-singer-writer. Stephen Holden of The New York Times proclaims, "Ms. McLean's voice [is] a flexible instrument with unexpected reserves of power…behind her playful adventurousness lies a well of passion." An accomplished performer (and currently on Broadway as President Woodrow Wilson in Shaina Taub's Suffs), McLean's songwriting has been praised as, "Savvy" by Vulture, and "Musically complex, dramatically abstract and...intensely intimate in style" by Broadway World.
