Capt. Zeita Merchant is scheduled to relinquish command of Coast Guard Sector New York to Capt. Jonathan Andrechik Monday, during a change-of-command ceremony at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

Immediately following the formal change-of-command ceremony, Capt. Merchant will be promoted to the rank of rear admiral. Her promotion is a historic moment for the Coast Guard as she will be the first African American woman to achieve this rank in the nearly 234-year history of the military service.

How come Mmac72 or AnObserver isn't complaining how the theater has gotten so woke?

Oh yeah...because this is real life, and what do you know, Black people exist and women deserve respect.

If you've gone to the theater for decades and never once thought, "Why aren't there any people of color on stage?" or (during a classic musical) "Hm, this isn't the most inspiring model of womanhood..." maybe YOU are the problem.
