LDJ is my favorite American play. I have seen several terrific productions over the years, but none has topped the one directed by Michael Blakemore in London in 1971, starring Laurence Olivier as James Tyrone., Dennis Quilley as Jamie, Ronald Pickup as Edmund, and Constance Cummings as Mary.
The finest production of ny play that I have ever seen. And I've seen thousands! In the 1973 film of this production, which Peter Wood directed, Maureen Lipman played Cathleen. I can't recall whether she played this onstage as well.. |
