The song is delightful and fun, but exists around one joke premise and builds to one joke happening and paying off in the same moment and the repeated and elaborated on.
I've never understood how actors who can't vocally and comedically nail this ever get this role. Watching Carol do it in the TV productions it's clear the difference.
Without that working in the song, the song kind of just sits there as an "old fashioned musical comedy song". |
