I think this comes closer to how I feel about this. Most of the comments seem to be about personal preferences, but for me, if the choice is seeing something that I think I want to see or not seeing it, i will always opt for seeing it. I am surprised that's not more of a consensus here. I have sat on the steps on the top tier of European opera houses to see sold out performances I thought were can't miss. But that's me.

I also agree about "manufactured intimacy." My favorite version of that was when I was in high school. I went to see First Monday in October, with Jane Alexander and Henry Fonda. It would be his last time on Broadway, and my first and last time seeing him on stage. It is one of my favorite memories ever. It was almost creepy how much it seemed he was speaking directly to me at times. Was it worth it? Hell yes. (And no it did not cost hardly anything.
