Unless I’m mistaken, not only are the theaters associated with his biggest triumphs missing from the list, but none of the theaters listed dimming their lights are ones he actually performed in.
He made his Broadway debut in The Wiz at the Majestic, and followed that up with Dancin (Broadhurst), Sophisticated Ladies (Lunt-Fontanne), Dreamgirls (Imperial), The Tap Dance Kid (Minskoff), Miss Saigon (the Broadway) and made his final appearance in Chicago (Ambassador).
That’s 7 different theaters he starred at, winning Tonys in 3 of them, and none of them are among the list of 9 houses dimming their lights.
