| GEORGE M! was not eligible until the next season (and might have won had it been). For my taste, the best musical that year was DARLING OF THE DAY, which suffered from a shaky tryout and a second-string NY Times critic panning it (whereas both Walter Kerr and Clive Barnes wrote raves in the Times). I attended the opening night and it was pure joy (as opposed to the opening night of HOW NOW DOW JONES, which was pure oy!). I did enjoy HALLELUJAH BABY! and THE HAPPY TIME. Michael Colby |
