| I saw that York production. Stephanie Umoh was good, but she didn't have the star quality of a young Leslie Uggams. Uggams in her one big number in "Jelly's Last Jam" shows that she still "has it". In that revival of "Hallelujah, Baby!", Vivian Reed sure was great though as Mama. I don't know why she didn't have a bigger career. Also, the re-writing of the book and different song placements really didn't help the show. It has a wonderful score, and the OCR is always a pleasure to listen to. |
