| All three of those songs are stories written by Ethan and, we find out, completely fabricated. The heightened style of those songs is, by my ear, very much intentional. The lyrics of each also double as the story of the character he is studying AND what is occurring in his life at the moment. All three of them worked wonderfully for me, especially the wailing wall number, using an allegorical story to sum up Ethan’s motivations and, perhaps, the motivation for storytelling in and of itself. |
